MAN TGX - Scratchnology...

Es tut mir leid dass ich in Englisch schreibe. Sie können doch auch in Deutsch kommentieren, bitte! Jetzt los:

As the saying goes, when you get stuck with the projects you work with - start a new one. Well, I thought, let's scracthbuild a TGX then. First of all this is supposed to be a XXL-cab but as I crawled through my shelves only XL TGA was available. I ordered immediately XXL version but couldn't resist starting the build. I got cab blueprints from MAN and therefore the designin part of the project was fairly easy.

And off we go:

Front grill was chopped of and some styrene was formed to replace the somewhat yesterdays design of MAN.

Some radical modifying with the lower parts

Here's the first coat of primer. Lots of sanding required.

Hey Italeri blokes, some concentration on the job at hand please!

And for those not familiar with the original kit, here's the TGA

And TGA's interior. Should be updated, right?

More like this.

And further on like this. Note that the steering wheel hasn't been painted completely ("aluminium" parts still unpainted) and bunk is missing.

Then let's spend some time with the chassis frame

Somehow I wanted to get rid of that Italeri "new concept" chassis

And after a while the result was this. OK, this is MAD 8x4 Scania basically, but it was better option at the time. All parts of the suspension that can be seen are detailed as a MAN suspension.

Finally I received the XXL-cab MAN and was able to build the cab.

Later on I decided to dismantle the cabin, do the molds and cast the scratchbuilt parts in resin for future use. Also the TGX new style mirrors were built and cast. Had to use some putty since the dismantling process caused some damage here and there. (The cons of using Ambroid ProWeld - too strong joints :-" )

These are the modernised air deflectors which are to be mounted on the front, both sides of the upper grille. The white ones are the duplicated parts while the masters are right below 'em.

Prime it again, Sam. Now what would the top coat colour be? This is going to be a fictious operator and the chassis is red. Silver cab maybe? Don't know just yet.

Geht weiter...!
